Darlington Mechanics Institute Hall is two halls joined together. The ‘old, old’ Hall circa 1872 was built with a grant to establish a library in the town.  In 1908 a larger hall was built, joining the original hall which had been moved ninety degrees and now serves as the kitchen and a meeting room which is cosy in the winter because it gets the low sun through the windows. The Darlington Hall committee have painted the hall in 2016 and hold events such as movie nights, dances, parties and the Darlington Art Group meets their seven times per year.
