To honour the event “Home is where the Hall is ” the Cowell Art Group are hosting an Exhibition in the Institute.  Bright colours, the outback and the sea, collages and still life are all used as inspirations for this exhibition of 150 paintings.   The nine (9) members have paintings displayed in the Foyer, Information Centre as well as the upstairs Art Room.  Members also have a display for sale in the Hall’s public toilets.  This has proved popular with visitors to the town and the Art Group have named it “Crap Art.”    The Franklin Harbour Hotel also display our paintings which are all for sale.  The members meet every Monday from 10 am and are happy to welcome visitors to watch artists at work  . The Exhibition will be open from 10 am to 3.30 pm each day of the week.

Franklin Harbour Institute was initially built in 1892,  it’s grand manner befitting the size and wealth of Cowell at the time. featuring a welcoming foyer with a staircase to the room overlooking the Main Street.The main Hall itself has a magnificent intricate high ceiling beautifully painted in heritage colours, a large raised stage at the rear. The original supper room under the stage in high tides  was prone to floodings. In 1962 a new supper room kitchen and toilet block was erected.Over the Years, Weddings, Balls ,Fetes, Concerts, School Assemblies, funerals and meetings have been held in the Hall. Currently it houses the Information Centre, Art & Craft Shop with the Art Group occupying the light spacious room upstairs.  The Institute is now open every day with the opportunity for visitors to view the Hall ,information and local Art & Crafts.   The Institute is a beacon in the Town where many happy memories have been created within it’s walls, the hub of the Community being “Home is where the Hall is .”
