ABOUT THE HALL:
The Foundation stone was laid on 20th February 1872 and the building was opened in 1873. The building has Grampians freestone facings and a tiled entrance hall. The main hall at the rear of the building was added in 1924 and the clock tower and clock were added in 1939. The animated clock figures and Westminster chimes were added in 1969 and these are activated at 9am, 12 noon and 3pm daily. Hanging in the downstairs foyer (near the stairs) is the Stawell Amalgamated Miners Association banner of 1878. (Restored in 1990.)
