ABOUT THE HALL:
The historic Glenmaggie Mechanics’ Institute was built in 1890 primarily as a venue for dances. In 1919 it was moved 45 metres by jacks and draught horses to its present location – due to the construction of the Glenmaggie Weir and flooding of the township area.
At the point of demolition in the 1970’s, hardworking committees undertook renovations and improvements to the facilities. Major achievements since then include re-roofing and re-stumping. The result is a beautiful example of Federation architecture which is also a very useful community building.
At present, the Hall is used regularly for Scottish Festivals, Trash and Treasure markets, Orchestral Recitals, parties and wedding receptions, as a Polling place, for Christmas gatherings, as well as for weekly pool playing and socializing by local ladies.
Located in beautifully maintained grounds, the hall doors open onto magnificent views of picturesque Lake Glenmaggie. The main hall can comfortably seat 120 at tables and also has a large supper room and kitchen. The hall has disabled access and toilets.
Hire fees vary depending upon the length of use and the type of event. For booking enquiries phone Ian Barbour on 0418337008.
